Geospatial Corporation Conducted Site Demonstration Project in Katrina-
Devastated Waveland, MS
March 29, 2007
The city of Waveland, Mississippi - “Land of Waves”- was devastated by Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005. The city was a summer retreat and resort for visitors from New Orleans and Natchez for many years. Waveland’s permanent population came from descendants of the original French and Spanish settlers in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s. Waveland endured hurricanes and storms before, such as Camille in 1969, but never such destruction as encountered from Katrina.
Geospatial Corporation recently completed a pipeline demonstration project as part of Waveland’s efforts to salvage existing underground pipelines and to rebuild others ravaged by the floods associated with Katrina. We mapped a 620 ft long, 8 in diameter PVC gravity sewer line spanning 3 manholes. Richard “Dick” Nieman, Executive Director of Business Development, is leading our work there to assist the city in identifying existing lines and mapping new ones with our Geospatial Smart Probe TM and in-house GIS service programs.
